Thank you so much for documenting the process; getting right-click functionality has absolutely made my day. My MacBook Pro needed a Firmware update to sort out the sleep/hibernate issues so if you're using a MacBook it may be that Apple will need to the same for that as well. Before my machine was sorted by the Firmware update - Sleep - tended to be more reliable - but generally only when chosen from the menu, not if you set Vista to 'sleep' when the lid is closed. And the process used to be chose 'Sleep' wait for the machine to sleep - then close the lid. Not exactly suitable for a quick getaway from a meeting or lesson, but it seemed to work.
